Student

My name is Isabelle Bishop and I'm a PhD student in the Philosophy and Religion department at UNT. I came to UNT to study food philosophy, which I became interested in through studying ethical and political philosophy during my undergraduate career at Marquette University. Before coming to grad school, I spent three years in sustainable restaurants working as a bread baker, while also working at urban farms and volunteering at my neighborhood food cooperative. My work outside of academia has greatly informed my research, which has focused on various forms of food justice. Particularly, I have explored pathways towards equitable and sustainable food systems through descaling and cooperation, the de-commodification of food and anti-capitalist foodways, as well as intersectionality and food justice.
